Taoism & Qingching Mountain

Today agenda is a hike up Quinching Mountain which is dubbed 'the most peaceful and secluded mountain under heaven" It is also known as the home of Taoism ( or Daoism).

I like to blame my being raised Irish Catholic the reason I am ignorant about my world religions. I knew almost nothing of Taoism. So, I found this to be a brief and beautiful nutshell definition:

Taoism is acceptance of your life. Taoism is following your breath to find peace. Taoism is opening up a smile to enable possibility.

Taoism encompasses a wide range of beliefs, practices, and cultural traditions, and its history has often followed a “Way” of complicated twists and turns.

I think we all need to embrace a bit of Taoism in our life, no matter what our religion or faith!

From our hotel we walk to a shuttle cart which brings us to a parking lot, from where we hike thru the Arch of Mount Qingcheng to the first stop: Jianfu Palace!

Jianfu Palace, which was originally constructed in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) . We were blessed with a perfect weather day.

We are planning to climb to the highest peak, which is known as Pengzu Peak, it is also called Laoxiao Peak, the elevation of over 1,260 meters (4,134 feet)! The journey is via stairs with one cable car ride up the steepest part. In between we pass thru altars, offerings, palaces and pavilions:

Shangqing Palace

Finally the top Jianfu Palace!

The weather is amazing, today about 75 and sunny, nights are cool. There are many flowers still in bloom all along the landscape. The marigolds are everywhere, big fat orange ones! (we are the same latitude as New Orleans!)

We opted for a different route down which was basically a 2 hour down mountain hike via crazy stone steps - amazing!

On the descent...Donghua Hall, Loan Pavillion, Chao Yang Ancient Temple, Tianshi Celestial Cave and Nature's Painting!

awww, only 3 feet!

60 Gods of Tai Sui (Great Year)

Off to panda adventure!
