Invited to Petrava the Cape Town home of Lady Linda Davis to have Christmas dinner with her family.
I met Lady Linda in China and we shares a love of art, adventure and is really so much fun to hang out with. She bought Petrava some 25 years ago when no one wanted to live in the area... now her town has become a destination city! Petrava is located just above a small fishing village at Kalk Bay The home has the feel of a southern plantation home, grand scale, very tall ceilings. large windows spilling with summer sun all of which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Again summertime here so all the trees are flowering in full bloom!
At the top of her road there is a shark watch tower. The guy who sits here is trained to be on the look out for incoming sharks, when one is spotted he radios down to the beach so they can warn the swimmers.
Although it is summer here, the water is freezing! I have been to a few beaches and people are swimming , many wear wetsuits.
We had an amazing traditional English dinner followed by Trifle
AND Christmas Pudding (the brandy butter makes it better than fruitcake!)
After dinner we went for a walk into the fishing village and were greeted by the “resident” seals"
We then went on a drive to yet another amazing beach called on the opposite side of the Cape called Noordhoek (Dutch influence still very strong here) I am blown away by the miles of beautiful beaches on the Cape. The sand is pristine! Leaving the beach at 6:30pm, some folks just coming in with beach chairs to watch the sun set.
Heading back to Cape Town to do adventures. The list might includes a winery tour, diving with the sharks, hike up Table Mountain and perhaps visit a township!
