Massive hike today! Table Mountain is the centerpiece of Cape Town, (about 3500' up, people!) a mammoth mountain overlooking the Cape Town - the top is totally flat... like a table! There are a few ways to the top, by cable car for lazy people... (if it is open. The weather at the top is crazy) or by stairs, or the "gentle" path up thru the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. We opted for the third! Kirstenbosch is the "base camp" was founded in 1913 to preserve the country's unique flora. Kirstenbosch places a strong emphasis on the cultivation of indigenous plants.
A gentle walk thru the Gardens leads you to more aggressive climbing... stairs, to rocks , to bigger boulders, to wooden ladders.
The first landing was an amazing reservoir and the trails around it had some of the most unusual and colorful flowers ever!
Hike to this point took about an hour and a half only to find out it was too windy for the cablecar to run. Which means...we are walking down kids! So rather than go up higher , to the table, we opted for what we thought a gentle walk down. We either misread signs or were mis directed - the hike down a death wish - cliffs and rock edges, windy as hell!
this specs on the beach sand are cars!
The entire hike took about 4 hours! A bit achy, a bit sunburned.. Love Cape Town!
