Santa Fe breakaway

August 10, 2018

Jet lag has lapsed, seeing a bit more of this city and environs...

Lots of sage smudge sticks for sale!

I haven't quite figured out the landscape here yet (dry as a bone, but stuff growing, no cactus?  but beautifully open and vast. Some of the most beautiful starry nights I have ever seen! Can't wait for a big rain!

Artisans selling mostly jewelry and turquoise outside at Palace of the Governors (the oldest public building in the U.S.

I love this retro graphic and seeing lots of beautiful metal work and signage here.

Yesterday a drive up to Taos was amazing. Within a one hour drive the mountain landscape dramatically changed from moon like desert to lush New England mountains (as I know them!).

santa fe vs taos

Taos was a bit less Southwestish in vernacular. The crazy weather (sun, clouds, rain and hail, then sun again) The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge was a surprise. At 650 feet (200 m) above the Rio Grande, it is the fifth highest bridge in the United States. The span is 1,280 feet; two 300-foot-long approach spans with a 600-foot-long main center span. Very windy spot it was on Thursday!
